ABOUT
Devin Bateson is a musician, comedian and media-artist, from Hamilton, Ontario.
As a musician and beat-maker, Devin creates limited edition tapes, from conception to realisation for himself and other musicians. His album “Ossiscope” was featured on Bandcamp's Instagram account. His music can be found on the first season of the TV show “This Is The Thing” and he has a big pile of songs in local podcasts. He mails his hand-made cassettes to fans across the United States, the UK, and Japan. His beats are specifically created from samples using a SP-404SX and SP-404 Mkii. He can be found digging through dusty records, old self-help tapes, or up in a tree collecting field recordings to create his sounds.
Devin has been perfecting his stand-up for the past 10 years. Where he spins absurd stories from long-winded to short concise puns. His stage presence was honed performing improv and sketch, as a founding member of award winning sketch troupe Aunt Francis, and an opener for Jackass and David Liebe Hart (Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!)
As a media-artist and art-educator, he has taught film and comedy at local schools through the Art Gallery of Hamilton (AGH) and the Factory Media Centre. He holds an advanced diploma in Broadcasting radio, TV & Film from Niagara college, a diploma in Animation from Mohawk college, and a Graduate certificate in Comic Script writing from Humber college. He created the Voices of Dundas oral history project for the Dundas Museum & Archives and implemented the “Makery” (Maker Space) for the Niagara-On-The-Lake Library public Library. He was nominated for an emerging artist award from Hamilton arts awards 2015.
